To help you write a piece that moves your audience from judgment to understanding.
This framework is useful when you want your audience to reconsider an assumption, understand your perspective, empathize with an experience, or see a situation differently.
What do I want my audience to reconsider, and what would they need to understand or feel before they can see it differently?
The Perspective Shift Framework takes your audience through a deliberate emotional progression:
Judgment → Perspective → Empathy → Understanding → Reconsideration
Instead of simply telling people to “understand me,” you guide them through the experience of understanding you.
Block 1 — Interrupt the Judgment
Thinking question:
What do I want my audience to pause before doing or believing?
Purpose:
Interrupt the audience’s existing judgment, assumption, or perception.
Block 2 — Invite Them Into Your World
Thinking question:
What would they understand if they could experience this from my perspective?
Purpose:
Help the audience temporarily leave their own perspective and enter yours.
